Good communication connects us with people and increases our feeling of belonging.
Could be easy – but talking holds lots of space for misunderstanding.
To keep it simple:
Communication = Sender + Receiver + Message + Interpretation
The four-sides model by Friedemann Schulz von Thun explains four facets which influence the understanding of the message, either for the sender and the receiver.
Sender
1. Fact: Data, facts, statements that I inform about
2. Self-reveiling: Information about myself
3. Relationship: What I think about our relationship
4. Appeal: What I wish you to do
Receiver
Interprets the message with one of the four facets.
Sounds so easy in theory. And then reality hits 😉. Will give an example in one of my next posts.
